10 minutes with… Walter Jennings, Noble Helium

Thanks for taking time out with gasworld. What’s new with Noble Helium since we last caught up with you?

Justyn (Wood, founder and CEO) and I were in Tanzania in March 2020, where we had a very successful two weeks of meetings. The key meeting was with the Mining Ministry and a number of complimentary government departments.

We also interviewed and appointed a Tanzanian National as our In Country Manager, met with various legal groups, and appointed a top tier Tanzanian legal team to advise and look after our legal responsibilities in Tanzania. We also spent valuable time with the Head of Geology at the Dar es Salaam University who expressed keen interest in learning unique exploration techniques applicable to the East African rift from Justyn, who played a key role in opening-up exploration inside the rift in 2006.

We made it back to Australia, just two days ahead of quarantine and the rapid escalation of the global pandemic. Despite Covid, growth has continued in exploration projects for primary helium, no doubt motivated by the closure of the BLM, a decade of shortages, price escalation, evidence that the US – the world’s largest helium resource – was depleting at 5% per annum with its largest field, the Hugoton, likely to become uneconomical by 2025.
