More than 500 Dutch horticulturists depend on the continuous supply of clean carbon dioxide (CO2) through the OCAP (Organic Carbon Dioxide for Assimilation of Plants) pipeline for crop production. The main industrial suppliers, Shell Pernis and Abengoa, cannot always meet the CO2 demand, which creates a great need to increase the CO2 capacity.
To achieve this, a 600 tonne storage and receiving station for liquid CO2 was installed. Carbon dioxide can be supplied to the OCAP pipeline from this installation, which opens the door to new CO2 suppliers. A prime example is companies that recover CO2 from biogas.
OCAP is a subsidiary of Linde and supplies CO2 to Dutch horticulturists. The CO2 is supplied by means of a pipeline network with more than 500 connections stretching from Rotterdam to Amsterdam. Oil refiner Shell Pernis and ethanol producer Abengoa are the main suppliers of CO2, directly inserting the gas into the OCAP pipeline.
