PSA (pressure swing adsorption) plants are on the rise, globally. Capable of producing gases in the range of 90-96% purity and generally boasting more mobility and lower energy intensity, these systems are often the most cost-effective means of production for smaller scale gas generation applications.
The advantages of these on-site generators are the provision of an economical and reliable gas supply, the ability to produce products with the flexibility of personalising purity and pressure requirements, and a compact design that allows for smooth installation and low-key maintenance, with additional back-up systems for consistent gas supply.
As nitrogen, for example, boasts often unparalleled properties in blanketing, inerting, refrigeration and freezing, it is used across an array of applications – from steelmaking and metal cutting to food processing, and pulp and paper processing or medical procedures in-between. Many of these applications may reasonably be expected to take place in remote locations, or on a smaller scale in emerging economies, and therefore the generation of nitrogen via a PSA-based technology may prove to be a more effective means of production and supply.
