Bio-LNG – Fuelling the future of transport

With fluctuating diesel prices1, policy frameworks and the general move towards alternative fuel sources2, biomethane (produced from upgraded biogas) can be used as an alternative to fossil-based fuels for freight transport in the form of bio-LNG (liquefied natural gas).

The bio-LNG market was previously a relatively small part of the gas processing world but has since expanded. While future growth projections have been undermined in 2022, the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Renewable Energy Market Update – May 20223 report states that “growth in transportation fuels, albeit at more modest levels, and strengthening biofuel policies still drive year-on-year biofuel demand higher by 5% in 2022 and 3% in 2023.”
