Recently, the testing for contamination in carbon dioxide (CO2) cylinders has become an issue of growing concern in our industry and this year, CryoVation introduced a new piece of equipment that detects contaminates in cylinders.

The most common contaminate found in carbon dioxide cylinders is residual water that may have migrated into an empty, open cylinder. To determine the possibility of contamination (such as water or soft drink syrup), the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) and others recommend that every cylinder be inverted prior to filling. For distributors filling hundreds of cylinders, this can turn a one minute fill process into a five minute drill.
