Developing the next generation of safety leaders

Rich Gottwald (RG): One of the most significant challenges we face lies in developing the next generation of safety leaders. With the ongoing retirement of many of our industry’s most senior  experts, the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) is playing an active role in fostering that essential knowledge transfer from this generation to the next. Many of our publications contain important industry lessons learned over the past hundred years. It’s crucial that we ensure the lessons and insights that lie behind our safety standards make it to the next generation of experts and decision-makers.

Laura Brumsey (LB): In the past, retiring CGA committee members might have been replaced by someone mid-level in their career. Now, many of these senior subject matter experts are being replaced by someone fairly new in their career, who may not yet have developed the same depth of knowledge and expertise. We are assisting with that transition, and are actively working to get this younger generation involved in CGA, and to better serve their needs. Toward that end, we launched a new Young & Emerging Professionals Committee in late 2019 to plan educational, professional development, member training, and networking events for this important and growing part of our membership.
