The story of 2020 is undoubtedly the outbreak of coronavirus, or Covid-19 to give its technical name. At the time of writing, the hard-to-detect virus has gone from engulfing China and the wider Asia region to spreading out all across the globe, with the number of fatalities worldwide now totalling more than 15,000. The total confirmed cases as I write this, on Monday 23rd March, stands at over 340,000 worldwide.
Europe, and Italy in particular, has now become the epicentre of this crisis. A terrible week has just passed that has seen the country move to more than 60,000 confirmed cases in total and over 5,400 fatalities. It feels as though we anxiously await the new results each day. Italy is now in almost complete lockdown, with all non-essential businesses and factories shut down in addition to its well-dcoumented social lockdowns.
