Circle City Cryogenics cryo-treats a range of things – but, as their slogan says, never bodies – in order to reduce wear and tear, improve strength and longevity, and save money. The Indianapolis-based company, a Division of Circle City Heat Treating, is involved in treating parts used in motor racing, including the Indy 500 race, such as engine blocks, piston assemblies, camshafts, brake rotors and even rubber.
Brian Tomlinson, Head of Sales and Marketing at Circle City has also treated golf clubs, golf balls, fishing lines, baseball bats, and gun barrels to increase life, quality and accuracy. Cryo processing is also used to treat TiN coated tooling, HSS (high-speed steel) saw blades – bandsaws, circular saws, jig saws, M-series blades – and carbide-tipped saws, as well as agricultural machinery. Even more everyday objects like light bulbs, razor blades, lawnmower blades and knives can last longer – three to four times according to Tomlinson – with cryo-treating.
The process is even being deployed to help cancer patients undergoing treatment. Anti-embolism stockings improve circulation and valve function and relieve mild swelling in legs, ankles and feet, and are worn by cancer patients post-surgery or after treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. They protect against deep vein thrombosis and prevent blood clots.
