Cryocap – A new solution for carbon dioxide capture

For many, the 5th November is known as ‘Bonfire Night’ or ‘Guy Fawkes Night’, a fiery evening of various annual celebrations characterised by bonfires and fireworks. For Air Liquide, however, the 5th November 2015 was a day of celebration of a distinctly colder nature.

It was the day the company inaugurated its CryocapTM system, a unique industrial installation that enables the capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) released during hydrogen production, via a cryogenic process. The development was described by Air Liquide Executive Committee member François Darchis as illustrating the company’s ‘ability to innovate for environmental preservation’ and came at a total investment of more than €30m.

“We take particular pride in rolling out for the first time in France CryocapTM, a technology which illustrates Air Liquide’s ability to innovate for environmental preservation. CryocapTM contributes to decarbonised hydrogen mobility for the hydrogen-powered electric vehicles on the market.”
