Cryogenics — It’s all about heat

Thermodynamics is the branch of physical science that deals with heat and its relationship with other forms of energy.

An understanding of this science allows us to design cryogenic tanks and systems to keep the heat out, and to control heat for the vaporization process when we turn cryogenic liquids into gas molecules.

The second law of thermodynamics is expressed in various specific ways. One simple and familiar principle is — heat flows toward cold. When we are cold, we stand in front of a fireplace and the flames warm us. Sometimes, however, this principle seems reversed, such as when you hold an ice cube in your hand and it makes your hand cold. In fact, heat is transferring from your hand into the ice cube, causing it to melt – heat flowing toward cold.
