Cylinder challenges: Reflecting on the challenges of our past, present and future

2020 is the year that Cylinders Holding celebrates 115 years of continuous manufacturing of seamless high-pressure cylinders. That’s a very good reason to take a look back and reflect on our past, as gasworld agrees, so that we might take a minute and think what change we have seen and could still yet see. What challenges will we see in the near future?

In the first 40 years of production, until 1945, cylinders were handmade in the forging shop, among the other products. You can imagine it wasn’t a production line as we know today. Another 45 years later and the cylinders were produced in three individual lines but still mostly by hand. It was a manual way of production which corresponded with the possibilities of the Eastern European economy at the time.

The crucial moment came in 1991 when the company put into operation a new production line with extrusion technology that was fully robotised. Suddenly, Cylinders Holding had got a new opportunity to grow. The most important thing in the whole process was the product development of an advanced cylinder.
