For my current article, the editor has requested me to gaze into my crystal ball and rather rashly…I have accepted the challenge, so here goes!
Over the years like all commodities, gas cylinders have undergone several technological changes. These have included improvements to their attachments (residual pressure valves/built-in regulators), cosmetics (powder coats), and tracking devices.
However, driven by gas cylinder users, ease of portability has been a goal for all cylinder manufacturers ever since I entered this field, way back in the early 1980s, and remains so today. I have no doubt that this concept of a cylinder’s technical efficiency (weight of gas carried per unit weight of the cylinder) will be a constant theme, until we end up with an impermeable and strong membrane container.
