Driver shortage – How KAG Merchant Gas Group is coping

Driver shortage is a problem being felt across the US economy and it is at “near crisis point” in the industrial gases business, according to KAG Merchant Gas’ Vern Ingham.

The national unemployment rate remained at 3.9% in August, near an 18-year low, and the US economy is steadily expanding. It has left a deficit in truck drivers, with various reports suggesting America has a shortage of somewhere between 30,000 to 60,000 truck drivers. 

“I think it is near crisis point, I really do, and it will only get worse before it gets better, for sure,” said Ingham, Executive Vice President of KAG Merchant Gas, a subsidiary of The Kenan Advantage Group, Inc., North America’s largest bulk transportation and logistics provider.
