Environics, Inc. – A higher level of accuracy in gas calibration

In 1986, Environics, Inc. was founded to fill a market need for a higher level of accuracy in gas calibration systems. Based on a groundbreaking development and using proprietary software they developed, the initial line of gas mixing, dilution and calibration systems was revealed, designed around the use of thermal mass flow  controllers (MFC).

MFC accuracy was typically expressed as a percent of full-scale flow (%FS). This means that the flow controller is most accurate when operating at its rated full-scale flow rate. That accuracy, expressed as a percent of the setpoint, dropped off significantly at lower flow rates across the achievable range. Environics technology allows instruments’ MFC to be calibrated to an accuracy of + /- 1% of setpoint, rather than full scale.

The accuracy of the flow controller is then the same, regardless of the operating point of the flow controller. This is achieved through the use of an 11-point calibration on precision automated flow standards by the Environics calibration department and the Environics software.
