Evolving regulatory requirements for healthcare BMGS

Twenty years ago, the vast majority of bulk medical gas systems (BMGS) were installed at large hospitals. It was a simplistic supply chain as these systems received product shipments directly from the air separation unit of the supplier.

In most cases that same supplier owned the storage equipment, and their technicians installed, commissioned, and maintained those systems. Most of these were large (3,000 gallons +) systems that serviced traditional hospital facilities.

The technicians involved in installing and maintaining bulk medical gas systems at healthcare facilities were regarded as the elite of their company’s cryogenic technicians and had years of hands-on experience before they were permitted to work on a healthcare BMGS.
