Fast forward to the future

Automation companies are reporting more interest in their cobots, which they claim are a solution to the restrictions and challenges created by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Using collaborative robots, known as cobots, to do simple, repetitive welding jobs, packaging and palletising can ensure worker safety without slowing or halting production at a busy time while also maintain social distancing. A cobot is an industrial robot with built-in safety, allowing it to work alongside humans and handle the repetitive, mundane tasks of a manufacturing facility.

Companies that were already using cobots before coronavirus spread saw the benefits of robotic welders during lockdown, while others are now considering turning to robotic welders. Rob Goldiez, Co-Founder and CEO of Hirebotics, a Tennessee-based company which hires robots including its cobot welder BotX, believes those that were already using robotic welders are at an advantage to tackle the challenges of coronavirus over those not using automation.
