A strong second quarter for gas and welding distributors was tempered by ongoing supply chain challenges and expectations of a moderation in growth in the third quarter and, potentially, beyond.
That’s according to the results of the Baird/gasworld Q2 2022 Welding and Industrial Gas Survey, collating the views of 22 executives at industrial, scientific and welding gas/hardgoods distributors and manufacturers, generating aggregate annualized revenues of ~$4bn.
Following on from the Q1 2022 survey that reported a better-than-expected first quarter, accelerating hardgoods growth and strong pricing actions comfortably being met, the Q2 survey found that growth remains robust but momentum is arguably being lost in the pace of activity. Hardgoods pricing has moderated slightly, and labor shortages continue to cause concern.
