Food safety: Responsibilities and requirements in focus at Linde Food Safety Summit

Under changes to the US Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) the quality of food contact gases such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide (CO2) are now managed as food ingredients, not just during food and beverage processing, but through the entire supply and distribution chain.

To educate independent gas distributors on industry best practices and new government requirements, Linde LLC hosted its first Food Safety Summit last year. Sixty representatives from approximately 30 companies attended the event at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana last year to hear industry consultants, major distributors, suppliers and leaders from industry associations.

Bob VanKirk, Head of Linde US Distributor Channel, Packaged Gases and Caribbean businesses, said, “This is an important time for the industry, and it takes vigilance and action to be a responsible supplier of food and beverage gases today.” He continued, “Our distributors recognize that food safety is not just a goal, but a process.”
