When gasworld first explored the world of food processing from farm to freezer back in 2011, the emphasis was on the various uses for industrial gases in agriculture.
In this article, as we revisit this business, we will look at a selection of those applications and home in on some of the potential growth areas both in 2018 and beyond.
Since 1990, the rate of employment in agriculture has steadily fallen. Represented as a percentage of total global employment, the World Bank reports that employment in the agriculture industry has fallen from just under 42% to around 29% (of total global employment). This shrinkage is due, in part, to the ongoing automation and scientific advances applied to the agriculture industry. As we harness industrial gases to increase production yields, better storage for shipment, and retention of shelf life, the need for more hands in the fields has been reduced.
