Make or buy, that is the question. It’s a very broad concept that today politicians, at least in Europe, tend to associate with job losses, de-industrialisation, de-localisation, and loss of taxes and income.
While this might be true if a global manufacturing enterprise were to decide to put all of its manufacturing activities in the Shenzhen area, when we discuss ourtsourcing in the case of industrial gases all these fears are totally irrelevant.
On the contrary, outsourcing of industrial gases brings in expertise, maintains more of a competitive edge, and can even generate public income.
Even if we are talking about a widely debated concept, the way it materialises with industrial gases is very specific. In the case of outsourcing, the client considers (in most cases) a complete business function where the potential supplier brings in its own expertise and a lot more than simply delivering a product.
