In September 2013, it was announced that former CEO, John McGlade, had decided to retire from the company – following an almost 40-year service at Air Products, of which approximately six were held as CEO. At the same time, the man that would ultimately become his successor was appointed to the company as one of three Independent Directors.
Along with the announcement came a statement that the search for a successor to McGlade would ‘commence promptly’. In total almost nine months passed before Seifi Ghasemi, who was one of the three new directors announced in September 2013, was named to spearhead the company as Chairman, President and CEO.
When Ghasemi, who is also Chairman of Rockwood Holdings (until he leaves that position on 1st January 2015), was announced as Air Products’ Chairman and CEO share prices rose – the most in more than five years. Ghasemi has a track record of creating value at the companies he controls.
