Carbon dioxide is an important industrial gas. Unlike oxygen, nitrogen and argon, carbon dioxide (CO2) is a by-product of a main supplier’s operations, so understanding the dynamics of the industries supplying the feedstock is critical to understanding CO2 supply.
When the supplier is producing their main product, they will be producing the CO2 coproduct so understanding the supplier’s operations and market is imperative
Let’s take a look at the current health of the major industries that are suppliers of carbon dioxide in the United States. As a caveat, this is the view as of the date of writing, is not an assessment of any specific company’s operation, and is meant as a short-term outlook from the perspective of CO2 supply. Also, planned and unplanned supplier maintenance will introduce site specific supply risks and there are longer term trends that impact each of the supply industries. In addition, please note that trends that are positive in the United States may be negative to non-US suppliers.
