Hydrogen combustion risk analysis

In just the last 10 years, the hydrogen industry has developed hundreds of new safety standards, and they continue to grow in number and complexity. However, application-specific standards and safety guidelines do not yet exist in many situations.

Without proper risk analysis and safety measures, the potential for leaks, component rupture, contamination, or even a combustion event may exist. Today, industry faces a pressing need for a more comprehensive approach to analysing the risk of hydrogen fires and explosions.

To meet this demand, a team of specialised engineers and scientists at WHA International, Inc. has recently updated its in-depth Hydrogen Combustion Risk Analysis (HCRA) method. “Because of WHA’s background in failure analysis and practice with a variety of hydrogen systems, we have seen the consequences of hydrogen combustion incidents across multiple industries,” says Dr. Harold Beeson, Principal Chemist and Forensic Scientist at WHA.
