After last month’s focus on air separation technologies, here we pick up the baton of gas manufacture and cast the net a little wider still to a range of different gas production technologies.
From air gas production to ultra high purity (UHP) gases, the technologies used to harvest these products are continually evolving to meet market demands and the industry drive for greater efficiencies. Plants are getting smaller and smaller, while capacities and product purities are increasing. Here we explore some of the gas production trends and technologies of today and, quite possibly, tomorrow.
UHP gases
When it comes to UHP gases, Pennsylvania-based Universal Industrial Gases, Inc. (UIG) notes that commercially available UHP grade oxygen and nitrogen maintain impurities levels of moisture (H20), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2) below 1 ppm (parts-per-million) and THC (total hydrocarbon content) below 0.5 ppm.
