In focus…Onsite gas generation

As the second wave of Covid-19 struck India, the demand for medical oxygen skyrocketed. Industry was forced to divert oxygen supplies to the medical sector, initiating a global effort by organisations such as the World Health Organisation (WHO) and NGO Direct Relief to supply hospitals with tens of thousands of oxygen concentrators and millions of dollars for the installation of gas generation plants.

Cases continued to rise and the sickest patients – unable to breathe unaided – were in dire need of more oxygen. Hospitals posted ‘oxygen out of stock’ signs on entry points and demand skyrocketed. 

The importance of various types of gas to be used for industrial purposes cannot be overstated. From supplying hospitals and providing a lifeline to patients requiring treatment to delivering high-purity nitrogen to the food packaging industry, onsite gas generation is a necessary component of both industrial and medical sectors.
