Industrial gas safety – The zero ambition: Part 1

In industry when we consider accident statistics we often like to quote Lost Time Injury(1) (LTI) rate or Recordable Work Injury(2) (RWI) rate. That’s the absolute number of LTI or RWI accidents expressed per million hours worked.

It’s armed with these and other statistics that companies compare themselves against their peers, that managers rate the performance of themselves and their staff, and that the outside world considers us in the race to be the best corporate citizen.

We take great comfort from the numbers if the rate is going down and we meet this year’s target. Conversely, if the rate is going up this is able to create considerable angst amongst senior managers and provoke many a new safety initiative.
