The arrival of Industry 4.0 is one of the key megatrends shaping our future today. How we live, work and relate to one another is changing before our eyes, a journey described as the next Industrial Revolution that we have been on for several years now in various stages of awareness, acceptance and adoption.
Progress has been swift in the gases industry, with the supply chain of today in the midst of transformation across the globe, arguably accelerated by the forced effects of a global pandemic that has itself changed the way we live, work and think. And yet, we still find ourselves at the inflection point; progress has been rapid, but with significant room for further improvement and adoption, and even understanding.
Like all key megatrends that tear up the form book and re-write the script, it’s important to still critique the impact – the benefits and opportunities, the challenges and obstacles ahead. How will business models need to adapt? How can we leverage the advantages? How do we square the initial costs associated with aligning with such a trendline? And is this technology really making us any smarter?
