Into the Future – The Environment, Energy, and Efficiency Continue to Dominate Market Trends

According to a recent report by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) (“What’s Next for Alternative Energy,” www.bcg.com), “several alternative-energy technologies are approaching inflection points in their development, and the day when they could have a profound impact on the global energy landscape could come far sooner than is commonly assumed.” Given the trends we are watching from the perspective of the industrial gas business, we agree. 

The BCG report examines the state of advanced biofuels, electric vehicles, concentrated solar power, solar photovoltaic, and clean coal through the use of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). All are among the seven trends we highlight in this year’s look at what’s ahead for the industrial gas space. In addition to alternative energy, two of the primary areas we cover are water and electric grid applications for industrial gas producers and suppliers.

Water Surfaces as Leading Global Issue 

The fact that potable water is in increasingly short supply was brought to the surface in 2010. Solutions to this global problem include conservation, recycling, and cleanup. The industrial gas industry is both a water consumer and a water solutions provider.
