Air separation units (ASUs) or gas production hubs are typically located as close to demand centres as possible. However, it’s impossible to reach all geographies, clients and points of demand with such immediacy.
The over-the-fence model simply cannot hit the spot with all customers or industries – there will always be a requirement for bulk gas transportation or delivery.
Bulk gas distribution is a huge part of the industry. With such striking and vast structures on the road in the shape of cryogenic tanks and tankers, bulk gas transportation is synonymous with the image of the industry. Accounting for up to 40-50% of air gas industry costs, bulk gas delivery is a big deal in the industrial gases business. This is only getting bigger, as the industry continues to invest in new markets, emerging economies and vast, undeveloped geographies.
