On May 9, 2013, The Linde Group of North America opened its Stewartsville, New Jersey corporate doors to members of the media for an informative day arranged by the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. of New York City. The Chamber’s goal was part of a long-term effort to highlight German companies with significant presence doing business in the United States. The arrangement provided Linde with a chance to show members of the energy-focused media the role Linde plays in developing and advancing the burgeoning natural gas market and the impact this market has had on Linde’s strategic direction and financial growth over the last few years.
The day was segmented into six brief presentations that included Exploration and Production (E&P) Services; E&P Technologies; Natural Gas Processing; Chemicals; Chemistry and Metals; and Hydrogen Mobility. Tangentially, Linde’s emphasis on safety and customer care were recurrent topics. Participants could tour a room with banks of computer screens manned by Linde specialists, with each screen remotely monitoring various Linde plants across the country. In case of emergency or, more commonly, energy saving purposes, plants could be partially or fully powered down from these computer stations.
In an adjacent, larger room, Linde tracking specialists monitored the gas supply statuses of approximately 85 percent of its US customers, along with the movements and whereabouts of the Linde trucks supplying them. Drivers can be rerouted at a moment’s notice to respond to supply emergencies with customers or to avoid danger or hazards along the routes.
