When gasworld broke ground with an exploration of the liquid air concept in a supplement in October 2012, few would have been familiar with the notion and its potential; a grid and transport energy storage technology that could play a critical role in Britain’s low carbon energy future.
Since then, the liquid air project has gathered considerable momentum.
The focus has widened to include not only energy storage but also the value of waste cold, both in the production of liquid air and its use in transport refrigeration. Major opportunities are being pursued in integration with LNG, and developing world cold chains.
