Measured growth: The role of measurement in net zero emissions with hydrogen

In the global fight against climate change, many nations are committed to reducing energy consumption and have set ambitious goals to minimise carbon emissions. However, to achieve net zero targets, there must be significant decarbonisation and a substantial change will be required in the way energy is generated, stored, transported and consumed.

As we transition away from fossil fuels to less carbon-intensive sources of energy, flow meters will become the cash registers of industry – as they are today for the gas networks and oil and gas industry. It is therefore important that the necessary measurement infrastructure is in place. This is essential to enabling domestic and international trade, as you cannot sell what you cannot measure. However, the requirement for accurate measurement is one key decarbonisation challenge that is often overlooked.

Hydrogen is recognised as playing a crucial role in global net zero carbon targets, and all industry-driven countries have therefore started to support the introduction of hydrogen programmes to reach climate goals.
