New certification program is put to the test

There is a certification board at work assuring a new level of safety in the compressed gas industry. As gasworld reported last year, the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) formed the CGA Certification Board LLC (CGACB) in April 2018 to offer certification services for industrial and medical gases industry perso

Founded in 1913, CGA is an ANSI-accredited standards development organization with a library of over 330 publications on the safe use of industrial, medical, and food gases. CGA works with code and regulatory officials to advocate for the advancement of industry safety, and its publications are incorporated by reference in numerous regulations and model codes.

As Rich Gottwald (left), CGA President and CEO reported to gasworld last October, the CGACB was introduced to meet the increasing demand from authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) and from customers for proof that gas industry personnel are qualified and competent in referenced standards. CGA had conducted a review that indicated many existing certification programs did not adequately address the unique hazards and considerations specific to the products and processes CGA members provide. The CGACB was developed to offer a comprehensive certification program for the gases industry.
