nexAir’s Hydrogen Business – Poised for Growth

Since its founding in 1940, Memphis-based nexAir has been a leader in the distribution of industrial, medical, and specialty gases, including hydrogen. The company currently has two hydrogen plants, one in Memphis, Tennessee and the other in Orlando, Florida.

The Memphis facility was completed in 2010 after a $1.2 million state-of-the-art construction and is the only such plant in a 250-mile radius of the city. In this interview Steve Atkins, Executive Vice President of Gases at nexAir, shares the company’s current view of the hydrogen market, potential opportunities for growth, and nexAir’s strategy for the future with our readers.

CryoGas (CG): Can you tell us about nexAir’s current view of the hydrogen market?

Steve Atkins (SA): “Our hydrogen business is an important and strategic segment of our gases business. We have capacity and think we are well-positioned for growth in the years ahead. Our hydrogen customers typically fall in three primary applications or markets: Power Generation; Heat Treating and Thermal Spray; and, High Purity Laboratory Applications.
