Increasing numbers of high-volume nitrogen users are considering swapping their supply method from cylinders, microbulk or bulk to onsite gas generation as it is claimed to be cheaper than buying from the major gas companies.
Nitrogen is used to improve quality where oxygen may be harmful to the product/processes, and it is being utilized by markets including pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, packaging, laser cutting applications, oils, military, lab, chemical storage and material processing.
Onsite gas generators are an option worth considering if the purity, pressure and flow rate are good, along with suitable conditions at a site such as climate, altitude and air quality. They also eliminate transportation costs. The generators use either a PSA system (Pressure Swing Adsorption) or Nitrogen Membrane Technology to generate nitrogen purity from 95% to 99.9995%.
