Everyone in the engineering world knows that pressurised oxygen demands special care as it poses a serious risk of fire. But some of pressurised oxygen’s more complex properties are easily misunderstood or overlooked within increasing global market applications.
In recent years the industry has experienced an increasing number of incidents relating to oxygen systems in a wider range of applications, underlining the need for greater awareness of the dangers of adiabatic compression.
Education is necessary around the correct use and maintenance of equipment and systems to reduce the risk of catastrophic failures arising from this phenomenon. However, greater collaboration between supervisory bodies and the industry is also required to extend the knowledge of adiabatic compression and establish new global standards that support growth in oxygen applications.
