Linde Europe North is close to finishing a 15-year journey to complete automation which has seen the Swedish industrial gases company not only automate its filling and cylinder handling, but also redesign its whole supply chain for the packaged gas business. Heavily driving an innovation and digitisation agenda, the company is very different today to the one that began life in Sweden in the early 20th century.

Founded in 1904 by Gustaf Dalén, the only Nobel Laureate to ever create an industrial gases group, today Linde Europe North boasts 100 production units at 60 sites, some 400,000 gas customers and 600 sales outlets. It is without a doubt the leading industrial gases supplier in the Nordic and Baltic region.

Linde Europe North’s journey to complete automation began in 1995 in the town of Riihimäki, southern Finland, when Linde Europe North build the first automated filling site. But this was never scaled in the industry, you could say the company was somewhat ahead of its time.
