When sound safety practices aren’t taken into consideration, packaged acetylene – used for the purposes of welding and cutting – can produce dangerous outcomes, especially when the gas is combined with oxygen.
Accidents can result in property damage, injury and even death. As just one example, in 2015, a Colorado man died from flash burns when vapor ignited inside a trailer where he was working. Across the US each year, acetylene accidents result in fires, which have destroyed homes and businesses. This past October, an auto repair business’ building in Stevens Point, WI, was gutted after an acetylene tank exploded.
Although acetylene and oxygen are useful and necessary in welding and cutting, the volatile nature of these gases, when combined, require extra safety precautions.
