Proprietary LNG technology

Late this summer, Air Products announced that its liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology had been selected for Nigeria’s LNG Train 7 Project, which once on-stream, will produce eight million tons of LNG annually in Nigeria, resulting in a major LNG production expansion at Nigeria LNG’s facility on Bonny Island.

The expansion will take part under an agreement Air Products signed with SCD JV S.c.a.r.l, a joint venture of Saipem, Chiyoda and Daewoo. The project includes one complete LNG train and one combined liquefaction unit. Air Products will provide the main cryogenic heat exchangers (MCHEs) and the process technology for both liquefaction units.

The MCHEs will be built at Air Products’ Port Manatee, Florida manufacturing facility. The roughly 300,000-square foot facility allows Air Products to manufacture coil wound heat exchangers for the LNG industry, as well as equipment used in its air separation and hydrocarbons businesses such as columns, vessels and cold boxes. Its location on Florida’s Gulf Coast provides ready access to port services – approximately one mile from the Port Manatee facility to a port berth – enabling Air Products to manufacture LNG heat exchangers to the largest sizes that the industry demands.
