Russia has perhaps been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this year; political uncertainty in 2014 has certainly already been cited by two of gasworld’s interviewees as a significant challenge to doing business in the region.
Yet there is still interest in Eastern Europe and Russia in particular for the gases industry. A number of companies have been vocal about their interest in the Russian gases market in recent months, and the opportunities ahead as they step up their presence in the region. With the latest gasworld Business Intelligence report on the Russian gases business in mind, it is easy to see why.
The Russian industrial gases market remains one of the few remaining areas of the world where the major multi-national industrial gas companies control a relatively modest proportion of the market – independent producer and distributor businesses currently account for more than 65% of the marketplace.
