Economic headwinds continue to test the robust nature of the global industrial gases business, whether through unfavourable ccurrency impacts, the decline in oil and natural gas prices, or lower economic activity – there has been pressure on the industry over the last 12 months.
However, the underlying growth in sales and volumes generally remains strong (although significantly down on previous years) and the gases industry diligently drives efficiency gains as it strives to make the most of what it can control. Indeed, this was very much the message of Air Products Chairman, President and CEO Seifi Ghasemi recently, when discussing the company’s fiscal second quarter results.
He explained that, despite economic uncertainty, Air Products remains ‘laser focused on the things we can control’ and maintains its full year guidance.
