Rio 2016 Olympic Games – Gases, politics and the challenging economy in Brazil

It is only a few months to the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics Games that will take place in the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro between 5th August and 21st August, and local authorities, construction companies and workers are working at full speed, preparing the city to receive 10,500 athletes from 206 countries participating in the first Olympics taking place in South America.

Competitions include 42 sports, with rugby and golf included in the games as official sports for the first time. Paralympic Games will also develop simultaneously between the 7th and the 18th, with 4,350 athletes from 11 disciplines.

Rio will be hosting most of the sporting activities, with the exception of football, which will take place in several Brazilian cities, and the opening and closing ceremonies will be at the historic  Maracaná football stadium in Rio, which hosted both the 1950 and 2014 Football World Cup finals.
