Depending on where you get your figures, the global market for helium is potentially set to reach £2.8bn by 2026, with the US currently accounting for the lion’s share of it. Myriad industries need the gas in ever-growing quantities, from space exploration and medical research to defense and even children’s party balloons. So it is no surprise that helium is an increasingly important focus for the companies that make the storage and transportation of the gas possible.
Littleton, Massachusetts-based FIBA Technologies understands that the helium market is being driven by several diverse factors, not least the huge demand for semiconductors and the growing requirement to reclaim used helium, as seen at universities and hospitals.
“The storage of recycled helium is one factor driving demand for high pressure storage,” comments Chris Finn, Sales Director at FIBA. “But fast-growing industries in the Asia-Pacific markets, where much of the world’s semiconductor manufacturing takes place, are also requiring more transportation and more storage.There seems to be no current end to that sector’s hunger for helium.”
