In regions where water is scarce, particularly in the Middle East, carbon emissions associated with the use of water in all types of industries, particularly the electricity and gas industries are of increasing concern.
As carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions appear to be one of the main reasons for climatic disorder, it is of paramount importance to find solutions to long-term environmental problems.
Water is needed for cooling and processing requirements in industry. While the carbon footprint is less apparent in drinking water production and wastewater treatment, it can be rather significant in heavy industry. This is why a tight CO2 budget is needed. The monitoring and analysis of emission sources is paramount in determining solutions in cutting the CO2 emanating from industrial processes and technologies, including the consumption of fossil energy: gas, petrol and coal, for example.
