The North American specialty gas market is estimated to see annual market growth of 8.5% in the period 2021 to 20281. The rise in expenditure in the medical and healthcare sectors is one of the main factors contributing to this growth, as well as the increase in demand for semiconductors across a range of device and the growing usage of specialty gases for cleaning2.
The growing importance of specialty gases, and the need to support this corner of the industrial gases market, is well understood by the Independent Welding Distributors Cooperative (IWDC). Across its activities, IWDC members have picked up on the specialty gases market as one of particular note, and this has also prompted some dedicated support.
In 2006, IWDC established PurityPlus® as its specialty gas brand. Set up to support the North American need for certified and high-quality specialty gases from a reputed source, the PurityPlus program today is a nationally branded line of specialty gases that is sold exclusively by IWDC member companies. Following a period of sustained growth, the Purity Plus producer network today has 295 locations, spanning 34 US states, Canada and Mexico.
“In the years since its formation, the PurityPlus program has grown into a network of 28 independent producers and an extensive network of distributors throughout North America,” Ashley Bivins, Director of the PurityPlus Program at the IWDC, told gasworld. “The PurityPlus specialty gas producers operate 31 laboratories, 12 of which are ISO 17025 accredited, while one has ISO 17034 accreditation and a further three have ISO 90001 accreditation.”
