Kiwa Gastec’s UK origins lie in Government-funded research into gas and solid fuel, and cutting-edge developments in gasification. Now some 70 years since its inception, Kiwa Gastec is today owned by the Kiwa Group, a global leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) – and the group has a prominent role to play in the growing hydrogen energy movement.
Its Cheltenham laboratories specialise in testing gas, solid fuel and oil appliances, while a specialist team of consultants working specifically in gas provide technical support for various high-profile hydrogen projects, where the company is widely considered an expert in the field. Its services are most often engaged by government departments, utilities, appliance manufacturers, and automotive companies, who tend to call on Kiwa for its niche technical expertise and practical experience.
Current projects include a collaboration with a gas network provider on Europe’s largest scale investigation of real performance of over 1,000 installations with G20, G21 and G23 test gases, and working as part of a consortium to examine the potential use of hydrogen in the UK’s energy space.
