The impact of low oil prices on LNG projects is well documented but the general conclusion, and the one emphasized at the recent Gastech event (October 2015, Singapore), is that liquefied natural gas (LNG) still has a bright future.
Previous bullish forecasts may have to be revised by a few years but, as we write today, natural gas is still cheaper than diesel at the pump and, perhaps more importantly, doesn’t exhibit the same price volatility over the longer term, hence LNG users have greater guaranteed price stability.
At times like these it’s also important to focus on all the benefits of natural gas and not just fixate on short-term pricing. Chart designs and builds equipment right across the complete LNG value chain and we have always emphasized our role as delivering a clean-burning, safe, and economical fuel alternative. It’s worthwhile then to recap on a few of the projects Chart was involved with in 2015 that demonstrate the clean-burning aspect.
