The Right Valves for LNG

When you consider the extremes of temperature in liquefied natural gas (LNG) applications, it is easy to see why choice of the right valve is essential. The right valves should optimize safety, offer longevity, and be able to withstand the individual conditions of that application. And this is no less important when it comes to Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs).

On a recent project, Bestobell was selected to manufacture cryogenic globe and check valves for a series of floating storage and regasification units to be built by DSME in South Korea, on behalf of US-firm Excelerate Energy.

As a long-time specialist supplier of cryogenic LNG valves for LNGCs (LNG Carriers) and FSRUs, we were excited about getting involved in this project for one of the first FSRUs for DSME.

The FSRU is destined for the Petrobras VT3 Guananbara Bay Project in Brazil where it will deliver one million m³/day of gas. It will have a storage capacity of 173,400m³ and will be on charter to Petrobras for 15 years. The vessel is the ninth in a series of FSRUs that DSME has built for Excelerate. Bureau Veritas (BV), a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification, is the appointed Class Society for the vessel. Classification consists of a representation of the level of compliance of a ship, vessel, or offshore structure to the rules set up by a classification society, in this case BV.
