Qatar: Helium supply update added to gasworld’s MENA conference agenda

As gasworld returns to the Middle East this September, we tackle one of hottest topics in the industrial gases business – the uncertainty surrounding global helium supply and the effects of the Saudi-led Qatar blockade

Qatar is responsible for around 30% of the world’s helium supply and, despite reports that production re-commenced at the two plants in Ras Laffan Industrial City earlier this month, questions remain concerning the ongoing diplomatic crisis and how this will affect future helium supply.

In the immediate term, the issue of logistics and getting helium product out of Qatar is still considered to be a major hurdle – even if production does return to full capacity, it is thought supply from Qatar will remain restricted until this is improved or the geo-political impasse is resolved.
