3D printing: Air Liquide initiates FAIR project to develop French additive manufacturing sector

Air Liquide is contributing to the creation of a new French industrial sector in the field of additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, with the launch of the collaborative project FAIR (Additive Manufacturing for the Intensification of Reactors).

The project intends to develop a new reactor-exchanger technology based on 3D printing.

It will therefore contribute to the creation of a new French industrial sector in the area of intensifying processes that will serve new usages such as hydrogen mobility, individual and collective heating, or the production of nutritional additives.

Initiated by Air Liquide R&D and the French start-up Poly-Shape, specialised in additive manufacturing, the project is based on an innovation approach with several academic and industrial partners. It aims to offer, in the next three to five years, intensified equipment (reactors-exchangers) that is more compact, more energy efficient and more cost- effective for many industries (chemical, petrochemical, aerospace, automotive) and tertiary services (heat pumps, cogeneration).
